The
SBSI-3000 Shore-Based Signal Injector is designed to inject an alternating
current signal into a target cable under test. When used in conjunction with the
CTP-800 Hand-held Cable Tracker, TES 5000 Towed Electrode System, or the ROV-3000 tracking system, the SBSI-2000 provides quick tracking and fault
isolation of any subsea cable. The
SBSI-3000 is a shore-based system that injects a low frequency sine-wave signal.
The operator can select one of the four standard frequencies, 25, 50, 60 or 1024
Hz. The
SBSI- 2000 is designed to prevent electrolysis, or "self-healing."
Electrolysis is the effect of an exposed conductor with current on it being
plated with the minerals from the seawater surrounding it, thus preventing the
flow of current over time. Output current is variable from 0 to 500 mA RMS with voltage from 0 to 150 Vac RMS. The SBSI-2000 is capable of driving 500 mA of current into a 2 to 300 ohm load. The unit is electronically circuit breaker protected at an output current of 500 mA to prevent overloading. It is powered by either 115 or 220VAC, 50/60 Hz.
